Bedside Battlestation

Bedside Computer cart
This is where I rested after my back surgery

In 2016, I had back surgery. Knowing I was looking forward to a lengthy recovery, I built this computer cart, so I could use the computer while laying flat on my back. It’s basically a roll-around computer cart to which I added a swing-arm monitor stand and a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Here’s the parts list:

4-wheel Desktop PC Mobile Cart

ASUS VS239H-P 23″ Full HD LED Monitor

Logitech M570 Wireless Trackball Mouse

Ergotron LX Wall Mount LCD Arm

Logitech K800 Wireless Illuminated Keyboard

I’m recovered now and the bedroom TV was in sore need of an upgrade.  You can see it on the wall behind the monitor in the above picture.  So, I moved the cart downstairs, ran some wire through the wall, and now have a simple wall-mounted TV with computer input.

New Problem: How to use wireless USB when the computer is in the basement?!?

USB cables only work properly up to about 25 feet. Short of drilling a hole through my bedroom floor, I had to run the USB cable to the bedside hub at 75 feet to hide it nicely. I found this great USB Extender that provides the signal boost needed to get my keyboard and mouse talking to the computer again!

About John MacDowall

I was born in Poughkeepsie, NY. We moved to a farm during middle school where I learned about raising animals and growing food. Now, I live in the affluent suburbs of Washington, DC and wonder why people eat the way they do.
