I’m going to do the whole30 starting on 8/15/2016. whole30? Oh, it’s the new crazy! Get this: for 30 days, follow these rules:
- Do not eat added sugar.
- Do not consume alcohol.
- Do not eat grains. (wheat, rye, barley, oats, corn, rice, millet, bulgur, sorghum, amaranth, buckwheat)
- Do not eat legumes. (beans: black, red, pinto, navy, white, kidney, lima, fava, peas, chickpeas, lentils, peanuts)
- Do not eat soy. (soy sauce, miso, tofu, tempeh, edamame, lecithin).
- Do not eat dairy.
- Do not consume carrageenan, MSG or sulfites.
The point is that all of these foods are considered inflammatory and cause gut permeability issues. Instead of digesting these foods, they pass into the blood stream undigested and cause inflammation in the blood stream and throughout the body. Don’t eat these foods and you’ll be amazed by the results.
So, I can avoid sugar. I don’t drink. I love bread and often make my own. Beans are beans. Whatever. Soy is GMO and evil and this is a good excuse to throw it all away. I already know I’m lactose intolerant, but maybe quit yogurt and cheese, too? MSG? No more Chinese restaurants. Meh. I can make my own. Preservatives? I hate preservatives. I like things that are being fermented with bacteria.
I’m almost done reading It Starts with Food and I bought the Whole30 Cookbook and NOM NOM Paleo! Call me crazy, but the plan makes sense to me. The recipes look great and maybe I’ll be able to leave some of my chronic pain behind.
I ate a bagel for breakfast yesterday and then just HAD to give in to my craving for another one 6 hours later. This can only mean one of three things:
- Maybe the whole30 people are on to something and they’re right.
- Maybe it’s psychosomatic.
- Maybe bagels are delicious.
I’ve already started making a couple of pantry items. Check out my new jerky making video on YouTube! It’s been too long–gotta’ make more videos. Maybe I’ll look like Alton Brown in Season 7 when he lost about 100 pounds and looked completely different! Stay tuned. I’m going to try to start posting again so you can follow along on my misadventures in food and eating! Anyways, hopefully this is the beginning of a series of videos about whole30. This video does use some heavy equipment from Cabela’s. You can recreate it by just mixing some spices into some ground meat, spreading it out on aluminum foil, and drying it in your oven. It’s still worth watching to learn the spreading technique, so you can make nice uniform jerky.
